I’ve been a fan of Philippa Green’s jewellery since I bought one of her perspex cuffs – a neon orange one with gold detail – about 10 years ago. I still often wear it and love it just as much as when I first spotted it!
Here’s my pick of what’s currently available on her website:
Look at the beauty of these! Just look!
UASHMAMA is a company that makes paper bags, braces and aprons out of paper … which feels (and looks) like leather. Ingenious!
Here’s what they say:
“Our paper bags, braces, and aprons are all sewn in a cottage in Tuscany, so we are proud to call ourselves a cottage industry. The more sophisticated designs our totes and handbags are produced in Florence by manufacturers who also produce for the fashion elite.
UASHMAMA washable paper looks and feels like leather but washes with ease. Our bags are soft yet resilient, where the manufacturing process is similar to leather the paper is stretched and tanned making it durable to withstand washing and daily use.
UASHMAMA washable paper is made using a virgin fibre through cultivation and not deforestation. Paper that washes like fabric holding it’s form so it can be used over and over again promoting sustainability perfect for catering and homewares.”
I was lucky enough to visit Verlorenkloof, at the foot of the escarpment between Lydenburg and Machadodorp, over the weekend. It’s really quite lovely, surrounded by mountains, and the Crocodile River.
Made in South Africa Klomp Ceramics are glorious. Really.
Here’s some of the Klomp story from their website:
“Klomp Ceramics was born out of a lifetime of preparation. Like a part of herself that had lain in wait for the right time to present itself.
What do you love to do? Mr Klompje asked his wife Alexia. A simple question not always so simple to answer.
‘Ceramics’ said the voice in her dream that night, and that part of herself was awoken.
Alexia Klompje creates handmade ceramics inspired by her life, experiences and things around her. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, adding to each collection’s individual organic quality.”
I love this South African label, especially these lovely little every day bags:
